Softball Remains In-State to Battle Tarleton

Cougars head to Stephenville for a three-game series
HOUSTON – The University of Houston softball program continues a 16-game road swing with a three-game series at Tarleton State University this weekend.
The Cougars will play the Texans in a traditional weekend series, starting on Friday at 5 p.m. Houston battles Tarleton again on Saturday at 2 p.m., followed by a noon matchup on Sunday.

THE SERIES
- The lone meeting in the series came back in 2021, an 8-0, run rule victory in Houston.
- Britaney Shaw went 1 for 1 in the game with a pair of runs, while Kati Ray Brown went 2 for 2 with a home run and three RBIs.
- Paige Hulsey also went 1 for 1 with a run and two RBI.
FIRST PITCH
- Turiya Coleman enters the weekend with multiple stats among the best in the NCAA. Nationally, she ranks fourth in hits (33), 16th in total bases (52), 17th in doubles (7), 22nd in batting average (.485) and 30th in stolen bases (11).
- Houston was placed at #83 in RPI entering the weekend. The team was 84th in the initial release of RPI on Monday. RPI is released by the NCAA every weekday morning. The Cougars rank third in The American in RPI, behind Wichita State and UCF, both teams that have been ranked at points this season.
- The Cougars boast one of the tougher nonconference schedules in the conference. Nationally, Houston has the 50th strongest schedule, only behind UCF's 14th toughest schedule in The American.
- The Cougars return 14 members of their 2022 team while welcoming seven new players to the squad, including three transfers.
- Houston plays 16 home games and no away games in the month of February, followed by 16 neutral site/away games and no home games in March. Houston is the only known school to have played its opening month at its home stadium, followed by an entire month away from it.
- The Cougars are playing their last season in The American prior to joining the Big 12 Conference next season.
- Kenna Wilkey picked up a pair of preseason honors, being named the preseason American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year by both D1Softball and Extra Innings Softball.
