Cougars can’t overcome deficit to ranked opponent

Turiya Coleman finished the day 2 for 3 at the plate with a hit by pitch, a run and two doubles. Katy Repa also finished 1 for 2 with a run and a walk,, while Emma Robertson went 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs.

Coleman got Houston on the board quickly to start the game. Reaching on a double, the sophomore advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch to put the Cougars up 1-0.

Arizona State answered in the bottom half of the inning, plating four runs on a trio of extra base hits including a pair of home runs to take a 4-1 lead.

Houston rallied in the second to tie the game. With the bases loaded, Robertson doubled to left to drive home two. Later in the inning, Repa scored on a groundout to even the game at 4-4.Â

The Sun Devils retook the lead in the bottom of the second, scoring a run on a solo homer off the bat of Yanni Acuna and driving home another with a single later in the frame.Â
Â
Arizona State added another two in the fourth to take an 8-4 lead, which was enough for the Sunday win.Â

·       Coleman has reached base safely in 20 of Houston's 21 games this season.
·       Coleman leads the team with seven doubles. In total, she has 11 extra base hits.Â
·       LA Matthews now has 10 RBIs this season.Â
