Wilson Advances to Final, Sprint Medley Relay Shines

Junior wins 110-meter hurdles heat, sprint medley relay squad posts fastest time since 2000
AUSTIN, Texas – Houston's De'Vion Wilson won his heat of the 110-meter hurdles on Friday at the 95th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays and the sprint medley relay ran the schools fastest time since at least 2000 as the Cougars concluded the second day of the prestigious meet.
Wilson qualified for Saturday's final in the 110 hurdles final by winning the first heat of the day in 13.41 seconds. The Austin, Texas native posted the fourth-fastest time of prelims heading into the final.
Senior Benjamin Okafor jumped a season-best 7.60 meters in the long jump on his fourth jump of the meet. Okafor continues to lead the conference in the event after improving by 0.18 meters from last week's mark at the Victor Lopez Classic.
In the women's triple jump, Destiny Lawrence jumped 12.90 meters, finishing ninth overall in Section A of the event.
The men's sprint medley relay quartet of Aaron Bell, Shaun Maswanganyi, Trey Johnson and Lloyd Frilot won the first heat of Texas Relays in 3:18.61 – posting the school's fastest time in the event since at least 2009 (records incomplete prior to 2000). The 200-200-400-800-meter relay cadence run by Bell-Maswanganyi-Johnson-Frilot finished fifth overall.
In the 100-meter dash, Cecilia Tamayo-Garza ran a season-best and conference-leading mark of 11.31 seconds.
Bell started the day with a season-best in the 100, posting a 10.43 second time with a 3.0 m/s tailwind.

The Cougars will conclude the Texas Relays on Saturday from Mike A. Myers Stadium. The meet can be streamed on ESPN+ or the Longhorn Network beginning at 1:30 p.m.
