AUSTIN, Texas – The Houston track and field team started the 95th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Thursday with three women competing in a pair of events.
Senior Sydni Townsend started the day for Houston running the fastest 400-meter hurdles time by a Cougar since 2019, running 58.56 seconds in the event.
Townsend moves up the American Athletic Conference descending order list with the fastest time this season.
Freshman Paris Baker ran the 400 hurdles a few minutes later, running a personal best 1:04.44 in the timed final portion of the event.
In just her sixth-career 5,000 meters, senior Claire Meyer placed 12th in 17 minutes, 33.27 seconds. Meyer cruised through 1,800 meters of the race in ninth place and then dropped a few places but clawed her way back into 10th place through 4,200 meters.
