Cougar junior fires 69-68 in First Round to tie for individual lead; Final Round tees off Tuesday morning
HUMBLE, Texas – After firing a pair of rounds in the 60s, University of Houston Men's Golf junior Santiago De La Fuente was tied for the individual lead at the All-American Intercollegiate with a score of 7-under 137 at Golf Club of Houston on Monday evening.
De La Fuente posted a score of 69 in Monday's First Round and bettered that by one stroke in the afternoon session on the 7,067-yard, par-72 Tournament Course to join Tennessee's Jake Hall and Louisville's Max Kennedy atop the leaderboard.
Starting his day off No. 1, De La Fuente quickly moved under par with three straight birdies on Nos. 2-4. He went on to add two more birdies for a 69 in the First Round.
In the afternoon, De La Fuente opened with three birdies on his front nine and added five more birdies in the afternoon for a 68.
Sophomore Wolfgang Glawe equaled De La Fuente with two rounds of par or better Monday after shooting 71-72 and was tied for 11th at 143.
As a team, the Cougars posted a score of 580 and stood in seventh entering Tuesday's Final Round.
No. 36 Louisville held the first-day lead at 566 with #17 Kansas Stat, #29 Mississippi and #14 Tennessee tied for second at 574. #47 LSU stood in fifth at 576.
Senior Austyn Reily and super senior Braxton Watkins were tied for 62nd at 150 while senior Marcus Wochner was tied for 91st at 155.
Playing as individuals, sophomore Drew Murdock was tied for 37th at 147 with super senior Campbell Gibson tied for 73rd at 152. Redshirt freshman Ruben Lindsay was tied for 80th at 153.
Three Cougars also competed at the All-American Individual tournament on the Member Course on Monday. Sophomore Jacob Borow was tied for 6th at 146 while senior Nick Sutton was tied for 12th at 149. Redshirt freshman Bryant Hiskey was tied for 23rd at 158.
The Final Round of each tournament begins at 8 a.m., Tuesday. Admission is free to all, and all fans are invited to attend both tournaments.

Glawe will start the day for the Coogs in the first group off No. 4 with De La Fuente (second group off No. 4), Reily (No. 5), Watkins (No. 6) and Wochner (No. 7) following.
Lindsay and Gibson will begin in the first group off No. 18 with Murdock in the second group off that hole.
In the All-American Individual, Borow begins at 8 a.m., off No. 11 with Sutton (No. 13) and Hiskey (No. 16) following.
