Cougars finish eighth after Final Round at Golf Club of Houston on Tuesday afternoon
HUMBLE, Texas – For the fifth time this season, University of Houston Men's Golf junior Santiago De La Fuente earned a Top-10 finish with his performance at the All-American Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon.
De La Fuente posted a 54-hole total of 5-under 211 to tie for third with Bret Gray (Sam Houston) and Max Kennedy (Louisville) on the 7,067-yard, par-72 course at Golf Club of Houston.
As a team, the Cougars posted a total of 297 in the Final Round and finished eighth with a score of 877.
Sophomore Wolfgang Glawe fired the Cougars' low round of the day with a 72 and tied for 12th at 1-under 215.
Senior Austyn Reily tied for 57th at 226 while senior Marcus Wochner and super senior Braxton Watkins tied for 80th at 230.
Playing as individuals, sophomore Drew Murdock tied for 27th at 220 while super senior Campbell Gibson and redshirt freshman Ruben Lindsay tied for 71st at 229.
#29 Mississippi won the team championship with a score of 855 to finish four shots ahead of #14 Tennessee and #36 Louisville. #17 Kansas State finished fourth at 866 with Sam Houston State (868), Arkansas State (872) and #47 LSU (873) rounding out the Top-Seven leaders.
Tennessee's Jake Hall earned medalist honors with a score of 209. Mississippi's Hugo Townsend finished second at 210.
Three Cougars competed as individuals at the All-American Individual event on the 7,508-yard, par-72 Member Course at Golf Club of Houston.
Sophomore Jacob Borow tied for fifth with a score of 219 while senior Nick Sutton tied for 13th at 224. Redshirt freshman Bryant Hiskey II tied for 28th at 241.
Mississippi's Brett Schell earned All-American Individual medalist honors with a score of 9-under 207 to finish three shots ahead of Tennessee's Laurent Desmarchais.
UP NEXT
Following the All-American Intercollegiate Houston plays host in its second straight tournament when it welcomes an elite field to the Valspar Collegiate Invitational at Floridian National Golf Club on March 27-28.
From there, Houston will send individuals to the Huntsville Toyota Walden Invitational, set for March 27-28 at Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Club.
The Cougars compete as a team for the last time in the regular season when they tee off at the Aggie Invitational at Traditions Club in Bryan-College Station, Texas, on April 10-11.
