Tennis Wins 6-1 Against Lamar

Houston improves to 10-5 on the year
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Tennis program claimed a 6-1 victory against Lamar on Monday afternoon at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility.

Houston (10-5) grabbed an early advantage against Lamar (8-6) by earning the doubles point. Azul Pedemonti and Sonya Kovalenko posted a 6-0 victory on court three against the Cardinals' Jayci Wong/Saloni Tamang.
Lamar's Femke Tjon-A-Joe and Margarita Nikonorova picked up the win on court one defeating duo Blanca Cortijo Parreno and Laura Slisane, 6-3. The tandem of Maria Dzemeshkevich and Sophie Schouten clinched the doubles point for the Cougars with a 6-4 victory on court two against Ana Jolic and Noelia Lorca.

In singles action, Slisane earned a 6-1, 6-3 win on court two against Lorca to improve to 8-3 in dual-match singles play this spring. Kovalenko followed with a 6-2, 6-3 victory on court six over Megan Do to increase Houston's advantage to 3-0.

Schouten provided the clinching point for Houston with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 victory on court four against Nikonorova.

Playing out the remaining singles matches, Pedemonti claimed a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 victory on court three over Jolic to give the Cougars a 5-1 lead. Cortijo Parreno capped the afternoon with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 win on court five against Elena Rubio.

Lamar's lone point of the match came on court one in a two-set victory for Tjon-A-Joe against Dzemeshkevich, 6-1, 6-3.

The Cougars are now 9-0 all-time against the Cardinals.
