Three Cougars hit home runs in win over Utah
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Three Houston baseball players blasted home runs in the Cougars' 14-5 win over Utah on the first day of the Kleberg Bank College Classic at Whataburger Field on Friday afternoon.
With the win, Houston improves to 2-3 on the season while Utah falls to 1-4. Cougar pitching limited the Utes to four hits and held Utah to just one hit until the squad broke through with three in the eighth inning.Â

Game Highlights:
1st | Houston did not waste time getting on the board as a single from junior designated hitter Alex Lopez brought home junior first baseman Justin Murry. With Lopez on second, junior catcher Anthony Tulimero knocked his first triple of the year to the back wall sending Lopez home and giving the Cougars a 2-0 advantage. Utah scored its first run of the game in the bottom of the first frame making the score 2-1.

2nd | The Cougars added another run in the second as junior third baseman Zach Arnold reached on a fielding error and sophomore outfielder Malachi Lott crossed home plate. Lopez then singled to left field bringing sophomore Brandon Burckel home increasing Houston's lead 4-1.

4th | Tulimero continued to connect with the bat blasting his first home run of the season and giving Houston a 6-2 edge. Two at bats later, Arnold crossed the plate on a ground out pushing the Cougars to an 8-2 advantage.

5th | Burckel added his first home run of the season in the top of the fifth inning making the score of the game 9-2.

7th | A double from junior outfielder Cary Arbolida brought home Tulimero for his third run of the day and made the score 10-2.

9th | A Drew Bianco home run added three insurance runs to Houston's lead in the top of the ninth inning, 14-5.
