Cougars Downed by Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –The Houston baseball team succumbed to a 12-2 loss against A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday night in the Kleberg Bank College Classic at Whataburger Field.

Malachi Lott: 1-2, R, BB, SB

Junior pitcher Daniel Wright (0-1) recorded his first loss of the season pitching 3.1 innings from the bullpen and striking out two batters. The Islanders' Evans Hendricks (1-0) tallied the win throwing 2.0 innings in relief.

The Cougars (2-4) brought across the first run of the game in the third inning. A hit by pitch followed by a single from designated hitter Alex Lopez put Houston in scoring position. Outfielder Brandon Uhse then knocked a deep single to center field driving junior third baseman Zach Arnold across the plate for a 1-0 advantage.

Sophomore Malachi Lott started the fourth inning singling to right field before stealing second. A ground out moved Lott to third before junior first baseman Justin Murray hit a sacrifice fly for Lott to make it home and gave Houston into a 2-0 lead.

However, Corpus Christi (3-3) had a momentous inning in the fourth frame bringing home five runs. The Islanders added two more in the fifth before opening the game up with four runs in the sixth topping the Cougars 12-2.
