Houston extends win streak to six
LAFAYETTE, La. – The University of Houston Tennis program extended its win streak to six with a 4-1 victory against Louisiana on Sunday from the Red Lerille's Health & Racquet Club.
The Cougars (7-3) started the day off strong against the Ragin' Cajuns (3-3), taking the doubles point, followed by three singles wins. This marks Houston's first six match win streak since March 20, 2019.
For a second match in a row, pair Azul Pedemonti and Sonya Kovalenko teamed up to defeat Louisiana's Lucie Raquin/Cristina Tchanichev, 6-2. Blanca Cortijo Parreno and Laura Slisane sealed the doubles win for the Cougars defeating Momoko Yoshimura/Angel Santiago, 6-4.
In singles action, Slisane gave the Cougars the lead on court two, dominating Louisiana's Carla Urchoeguia, 6-2, 6-4. Sophomore Maria Dzemeshkevich earned Houston's third point of the day after defeating Raquin, 6-3, 6-1.
Freshman Gabriela Cortes sealed the win for the Cougars on court five against Santiago, 6-2, 6-3.
The lone point for Louisiana was put on the board after Sophie Schouten fell to Tchanichev, 6-2, 6-2.
The Cougars are now 4-0 all-time against the Ragin' Cajuns.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will return to the friendly confines of the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility to face Louisiana Monroe at 11 a.m., Saturday.
