Cal’s Late Surge Lifts Golden Bears Past Cougars

Houston wraps up Cal series at noon Sunday at Schroeder Park
Key Innings
3rd | Graduate Drew Bianco chased down a hit to deep center field, leaping to snag the ball over the wall and save a run to keep the game scoreless.
6th | Cal scored the first run of the game after utility player Luca Bove hit an RBI-double to left center for the 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the inning, senior right fielder Brandon Uhse struck a solo home run to left field to tie the game at 1-1. His solo shot marked the first home run and team run for the Cougars this season.
7th | The Golden Bears regained the lead off a 2-RBI double down the left field line. Senior pitcher Maddux Miller took over on the mound and retired the following two batters with two runners on base to freeze the deficit at 3-1.
8th | Down two runs with two runners on base, senior shortstop Ian McMillan doubled towards left field to bring junior catcher Anthony Tulimero and Uhse home and equalize at 3-3.
Houston Notes
Offense:
- Brandon Uhse recorded the first hit, run and home run of the season for the Cougars.
- Anthony Tulimero tallied his first hit of the season.
- Zach Arnold recorded his 17th career multi-hit game for the Cougars.
- Justin Murray, Braden Forsyth, Nick Collins, and Brendan O'Donnell all made their Houston debuts.
- Alex Lopez has recorded a hit in each of his last eight games, posting four multi-hit performances in that stretch.
- Kyle LaCalameto registered five strikeouts, allowing one run on 82 pitches through 5.2 innings pitched in the no decision.
- Braden Forsyth made his debut on the mound as he pitched 0.1 innings in the seventh.
- Maddux Miller stepped in with two runners in scoring position in the top of the seventh after the Bears scored two runs. He retired the next two batters and picked up the last two outs to close the inning for the Cougars.
