De La Fuente Named The American Golfer of the Week

Junior earns honor after winning third individual title of collegiate career
HOUSTON – Firing three straight sub-par rounds on the way to an individual championship, University of Houston junior Men's Golfer Santiago De La Fuente was honored as the American Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week on Wednesday.
Competing in the Cougars' spring season opener at the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club, De La Fuente opened that tournament with a 70 and closed with back-to-back 71s for a total of 4-under 212.
With his performance, De La Fuente collected the third title of his collegiate career and his first as a Cougar. He won a pair of events at Arkansas Tech before transferring to Houston in summer 2022.
De La Fuente became the 15th different student-athlete to win the 22nd individual title under Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke.
This season, he leads Houston with a 70.71 scoring average and 11 rounds of par or better in the 14 total rounds he has played in 2022-23.
De La Fuente has finished among the Top-13 leaders in all five tournaments in which he has played this season with three Top-10 showings

De La Fuente and the Cougars return to Houston to compete at the Rice Intercollegiate at Westwood Golf Club on Feb. 20-21.
Houston continues its spring slate when it tees off at the Cabo Collegiate at Twin Dolphin Club in Los Cabos, Mexico, on March 5-7. The Cougars also will send individuals to compete at the HCU Colin Montgomerie Invitational at Sweetwater Country Club on March 6-7.
From there, the Cougars play host to their own All-American Intercollegiate on March 20-21 at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas.
