Blair Snags Back-to-Back Weekly Honors

Junior is first Cougar to win back-to-back weekly awards in The American after career-high 30 points
HOUSTON – Bolstered by a career-high 30 points in Houston's upset win at No. 24 South Florida on Sunday, junior guard Laila Blair took home the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week award for the second straight week.
Blair is the first Cougar to win back-to-back Player of the Week honors in The American and first Cougar to do it in any league since Chandi Jones was Co-Player of the Week back-to-back weeks in Conference USA in 2004. The junior is the first Cougar since Jones was sole Player of the Week in C-USA in 2002 to be back-to-back Player of the Week.
Blair scored 22 of her 30 points in the first half and made five of her six three-pointers in the first 20 minutes of the game, including a half-court pull-up buzzer beater at the half to put Houston up 43-31.
The Houston-native's 14.4 points per game in conference play ranks seventh in the league and her 3.3 assists per game against American opponents is fourth.
The Cougars have now won four conference games in a row and are second place in the league at 7-3. Houston's win at South Florida snapped a 12-game winning streak and handed the Bulls their first home loss of the season.
UP NEXT
Houston will return home to Fertitta Center Wednesday to play Memphis at 7 p.m. on ESPN+. The Cougars and Tigers will meet for the first time this season after their Feb. 1 game in Tennessee was postponed due to severe weather.
