Softball Announces Non-Conference Schedule

HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team will play a 27-game non-conference schedule, including 15 games at Cougar Softball Stadium, the program announced on Friday.

Four of the team's 18 non-conference opponents – LSU, Praire View A&M, McNeese and Texas A&M – reached the NCAA Tournament in 2023, with three earning RPIs inside the top 50 (LSU, Texas A&M, McNeese) 2024 Softball Non-conference Schedule

and another two non-NCAA qualifiers inside the top 100 (Rutgers, Boise State).

"We are very fortunate to open our 2024 slate at home while also getting on the road early to compete against NCAA tournament teams," Head Coach Kristin Vesely said. "We have an opportunity with our non-conference schedule to position ourselves well early in season and to set up our exciting inaugural year in the Big 12 Conference."

The Cougars open their schedule at home with the Houston Invitational (Feb. 9-11). Play begins Friday with games against Colgate and Indiana State before a second matchup with Indiana State and tilt against Rutgers on Saturday. The Cougars close the weekend with a second bout against Rutgers on Sunday.

Houston's home play continues with the Houston Classic featuring matchups against UMass (Feb. 16), Northwestern State (Feb. 16; Feb. 18), Nicholls (Feb. 17) and UTSA (Feb. 18).

The Cougars close tournament play at the Tiger Classic, hosted by LSU, from Feb. 23-25. Houston opens with Austin Peay and LSU on Friday. The Cougars then play Boise State and battle in a rematch against LSU on Saturday before finishing with Austin Peay again on Sunday.

Following tournament play, Houston hosts McNeese for a midweek contest on Feb. 28 while also traveling to Lake Charles, La., the following week for another midweek tilt against the Cowgirls on March 6.

The Cougars play their lone non-conference three-game series at Texas A&M-Commerce to open the month of March (1-3). As previously announced, Houston begins its inaugural Big 12 Conference slate on March 8 by hosting Texas.

Throughout conference play, the Cougars will travel to play multiple midweek games, including at Stephen F. Austin on March 19, at Sam Houston on April 9 and at Texas A&M on April 23. Houston also hosts Praire View A&M on March 26, Houston Christian on April 2 and Lamar on April 16.

Overall, Houston will host 30 games at Cougar Softball Stadium in 2024, with 14 in non-conference play as well as three-game series against Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma State, UCF and Texas Tech in league play. The team will also battle nine 2023 NCAA Tournament teams.
