#22 Volleyball Sweeps Oklahoma

Cougars surge to earn sixth consecutive win, post fifth sweep in last six matches
NORMAN, Okla. – The #22 University of Houston Volleyball team continued its success and extended its win streak to six with a three-set sweep of Oklahoma on Thursday night at McCasland Field House.
Houston (15-7, 8-5 Big 12) held Oklahoma (9-14, 2-11 Big 12) to a .096 hitting percentage, its sixth match this season holding its opponent to a sub-.100 efficiency. The Cougars are 14-0 in those matches under Head Coach David Rehr. Houston also tallied nine blocks in the match and hit .370 as a team.
Graduate Abbie Jackson shined in the match, posting a match-best 15 kills on .500 hitting percentage. She also added six digs, an ace and a block. Junior Katie Corelli also excelled, earning 7 kills on .545 hitting efficiency to go with four blocks. Junior Kellen Morin led the match with five blocks while senior Kate Georgiades tallied a match-best 13 digs and three aces.
SET ONE
Oklahoma took a quick lead in the first at 3-1, but Houston rallied to take the lead for good with a 5-0 run to push the score to 6-3. The Sooners closed the gap to one at 7-6, but a 3-0 run with back-to-back kills from Jackson reextended Houston's lead. Oklahoma hung around, closing the gap to 15-13 but another 5-0 Cougar run expanded Houston's lead to 20-13. The Cougars closed the set on a 4-1 run, winning 25-16.
Jackson tallied five kills in the opening frame while graduate Morgan Janda posted five assists and Georgiades recorded five digs.
SET TWO
Houston opened the second with a 4-0 run and while Oklahoma would shrink its deficit to one after a 4-1 stretch, a 3-0 Houston run reestablished a four-point lead for the Cougars at 8-4. Another 5-1 period lengthened Houston's lead to 16-10 and the Cougars finished the frame on a 8-1 stretch to win 25-13.
Corelli and Jackson both posted five kills in the set with Janda adding another five assists and three Cougars tallying two blocks.
SET THREE
The teams traded jabs early in the third, resulting in a 4-4 tie. An 8-1 run from the Cougars put them in the lead for good at 12-5 and another 4-0 run soon after furthered the Cougars' lead to 16-7. After going back-and-forth with Oklahoma after to push the score to 20-13, Houston rallied for a 5-1 stretch to clinch the set, 25-14, and the match, 3-0.
Jackson recorded another five kills in the third while senior Annie Cooke and Janda both earned five assists.

- Rehr earned his 99th victory at Houston with the 3-0 win. He now sits at 99-41 with the Cougars and 640-184 in his career.
- Graduate Nena Mbonu tallied four blocks to reach 100 in her career.
- Cooke moved up to #5 on Houston's all-time assists list. She now has 3,048 in her career, passing Keandra McCardell's 3,046 from 2014-17.
- Jackson played in her 500th career set. She's #2 on Houston's all-time list, behind Tullos' 534.
