Cougars drop final two sets in heartbreaker to end its LSU Tournament

BATON ROUGE, La.– The University of Houston Volleyball team dropped its final game of the LSU Tournament against Wake Forest, Saturday afternoon.

Houston's errors were too much to overcome in a five-set loss to Wake Forest to close its weekend in Baton Rouge.

The Cougars' first set was an attacking showcase with the team boasting a .500 hitting percentage ran by junior Kalei Edson who registered 14 assists in the set. Wake Forest jetted to an early 7-5 lead before four unanswered points put the Cougars in front. The lead would not be relinquished with Houston scoring the final six out of eight points to secure the set 25-17.

Wake Forest tied the match claiming the second set with the Deacons tallying 14 kills. A close set that stayed within three points until the Deacons jumped to 23-17 lead following a 4-0 run. Wake Forest would claim the set 25-18.

The Cougars jumped to an early lead in the third set claiming a seven-point advantage at the media timeout with the score at 15-8. Behind junior Kamille Gibson and sophomore Noemi Despaigne's 13 combined kills, the Cougars closed the set out at 25-21.

The Demon Deacons evened the match in a fourth set that saw Wake Forest hold a lead from beginning to end.
A service error by the Cougars concluded the set 25-21.

An early 5-3 lead for the Cougars would not hold, as Wake Forest triumphed 15-11 in the fifth set rallying behind eight unanswered points that flipped the set in the Deacons' favor.
