Men’s Golf Welcomes Hsuan-Yi Chen

Will compete as a freshman beginning in 2024-25 after signing National Letter of Intent on Wednesday
HOUSTON – Hsuan-Yi Chen has signed a National Letter of Intent with the University of Houston Men's Golf and will begin competing with the Cougars in 2024-25, Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke announced Wednesday.
A native of Daxi, Taoyuan, Taiwan, Chen will compete as a freshman and have four years of eligibility.
"Hsuan-Yi is a tremendously talented young man. He has won events worldwide, and his world amateur rankings continues to rise over the year," Dismuke said. "Hsuan-Yi is a solid player who is excited about playing Big 12 golf and playing in one of the most historic golf programs of all time."
In 2023, he was the Yeangder Open individual champion with a four straight rounds of 72 or lower and captured medalist honors at the Yeangder Classic Leg #6. Chen also tied for first at the Future Challenge Championship with a three-round score of 209, including a 68 in the Final Round.
Playing for Taoyuan Municipal Daxi Senior High School, he led his squad to a second-place finish at the 2022 National High School Team Championship and was the individual championship with a four-round score of 280, thanks to consecutive 69s to open the tournament.
Chen also was a member of his school's third-place team at the National Baseball Championship.

Houston returns to action to open its spring season at the Southwestern Invitational at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif., on Jan. 29-31.
The Cougars then return to the Lone Star State to play host to the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas on Feb. 19-20.
