Eight Honored by Big 12 Coaches

Paul, Ceaser named All-Big 12 First Team; Caldwell, Golden tabbed All-Big 12 Second Team
IRVING, Texas – Eight Houston Football student-athletes were named All-Big 12 Conference on Wednesday by the league including four first or second team honorees – the most first- and second-team selections among the four league's newcomers.
Patrick Paul (1st Team), Nelson Ceaser (1st Team), Jamaree Caldwell (2nd Team), Matthew Golden (2nd Team), Samuel Brown (honorable mention), Isaiah Hamilton (honorable mention), A.J. Haulcy (honorable mention) and Parker Jenkins (honorable mention) earned conference recognition.
NELSON CEASER – FIRST TEAM – DL – MISSOURI CITY, TEXAS
Ceaser led the league in sacks per game (0.75), tallying six sacks in eight games. The junior finished the year second in sacks in conference games (6) behind teammate Jamaree Caldwell (6.5) who finished second in sacks per game (0.72).
Ceaser showed his ability to tackle all over the field with 8.5 tackles for loss in Big 12 games, playing defensive end, linebacker and even lining up near the boundary as a cornerback against Oklahoma State.
Ceaser was also named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention Defensive Player of the Year and Honorable Mention Defensive Lineman of the Year.
PATRICK PAUL – FIRST TEAM – OL – HOUSTON, TEXAS
For the third straight year, Paul has earned all-conference first team honors as an offensive lineman.
Paul led the nation among tackles with a 92.8 pass block grade according to PFF. The junior, who declared for the NFL Draft on Tuesday, did not permit a sack, alongside just one quarterback hit, in 468 opportunities. Paul played 777 snaps at left tackle for the Cougars during 2023, registering a 99.3 pass block efficiency, which also ranked tied atop the FBS, according to PFF.
Paul was also named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention Offensive Lineman of the Year
JAMAREE CALDWELL – SECOND TEAM – DL – NEWBERRY, S.C.
A disruptor in the middle of the field, Caldwell tied for the league lead with 6.5 sacks in conference play and finished tied for second with 0.72 sacks per game in Big 12 games. The interior lineman finished Big 12 play with 8.5 tackles for loss and a pivotal blocked field goal in Houston's win at Baylor on Nov. 4.
MATTHEW GOLDEN – SECOND TEAM – PR/KR – HOUSTON, TEXAS
Tied for the Big 12 lead in kickoff returns with a pair of early season kick returns of 98 against TCU and 100 yards against West Virginia. The sophomore's 98-yard kick return touchdown against TCU was the program's first Big 12 touchdown.
The Houston native averaged 35.7 yards per kickoff return and also earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention Special Teams Player of the Year.
SAMUEL BROWN – HONORABLE MENTION – WR – SAVANNAH, GA.
The sophomore hauled in a trio of receiving touchdowns in league play, while racking up 508 receiving yards against Big 12 opponents for an average of 11.8 yards per catch. Brown's 43 receptions ranked sixth in conference play.
ISAIAH HAMILTON – HONORABLE MENTION – DB – HOUSTON, TEXAS
Playing in his first FBS season, Hamilton picked off a pair of Big 12 quarterbacks in his debut season with the Cougars. The junior returned a 57-yard pick six against Oklahoma State for Houston's lone defensive touchdown of the season.
A.J. HAULCY – HONORABLE MENTION – DB – HOUSTON, TEXAS
In conference play, Haulcy finished third in Big 12 games in total tackles (83) and finished the season two tackles shy of his second straight 100-tackle season after transferring to Houston.
Big 12 coaches also selected Haulcy as Honorable Mention Defensive Newcomer of the Year.
PARKER JENKINS – HONORABLE MENTION – ONOY – HOUSTON, TEXAS
Jenkins rushed for 464 yards in his true freshman season, tallying all three of his touchdowns against Sam Houston. The freshman became the first Cougar in program history to have three rushing touchdowns in his first start (against Sam Houston). His three touchdowns in a half also matched the program record.
