Seniors Cordelia Cross and Maddie Bowers record goals against the Bears
HOUSTON– The University of Houston Soccer program concluded its inaugural Big 12 Conference season with a 3-2 loss against Baylor on Monday evening at the Carl Lewis International Complex.
The scoring for both teams started early as Baylor (9-6-3, 4-4-2 Big 12) was the first to hit the net with a goal in the 10th minute by Salma Simonin.
Houston (8-8-2, 2-7-1 Big 12) immediately followed with a goal from senior midfielder Cordelia Cross in the 11th minute to even the score. The Granada Hills, Calif., native recorded her first goal of the season and fourth career goal with the Cougars.
In the 35th minute, Baylor's Ashley Merrill made it 2-1 to give the Bears the lead going into the half.
Houston found the equalizer in the 68th minute senior Maddie Bowers scored off the set piece, assisted by freshman midfielder Aryanna Jimison. Bowers recorded her fourth goal of the season and sixth collegiate goal. Jimison concluded her freshman campaign with five goals and four assists.
In the 80th minute, Merrill scored her second of the evening to give Baylor the go-ahead 3-2 win.
