Tennis Completes Day One of ITA Texas Regionals

Cougars capture four singles and a pair of doubles wins
WACO, Texas – The University of Houston tennis team picked up four singles and two doubles wins on day one of the ITA Texas Regionals.
SINGLES
Sonya Kovalenko and Elena Trencheva picked up wins in the opening round. Kovalenko didn't allow a point against Lyric Bonilla (UIW), 6-0, 6-0. Trencheva defeated Francesca Lucia Duca (PVAMU), 6-4, 6-2.
After dropping their first match, Nina Skoric and Sophie Schouten each picked up a win in the consolation bracket. Skoric defeated Ainara Vegal Rodgriguez (PVAMU), 6-2, 6-3, and Schouten bested Andrea Guerrero (ACU), 6-0, 6-3.
DOUBLES
The Cougars earned a pair of doubles victories as Schouten and Kovalenko defeated Noelia Lorca and Adeliya Mukhutdinova (Tarleton State), 8-7(7-5), while Blanca Cortijo Parreno and Nina Skoric knocked off Ine Lamprecht and Lyric Bonilla (UIW) 8-4.
