Tennis Takes Down Texas State, 4-1

Houston continue at home Friday in doubleheader action against Prairie View
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Tennis program recorded its second win of the season with a 4-1 victory against Texas State on Saturday afternoon from the Evelyn Rubenstein JCC Boniuk Tennis Center.
The Cougars' match was scheduled to take place at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility, but due to inclement weather, it was moved indoors to the Evelyn Rubenstein JCC Boniuk Tennis Center. Houston's previously scheduled Sunday match against ULM has now been postponed. No makeup date has been set at this time.

Houston (2-3) started the day off strong against Texas State (1-1), taking the doubles point and picking up three singles wins.Â

For a second consecutive match, Maria Dzemeshkevich and Azul Pedemonti finished the first doubles match of the day with a 6-2 victory over Andrea Pineda and Jadeh Chan. The Cougars clinched the doubles point on court one after Elena Trencheva and Sophie Schouten defeated Kate Malazonia and Mae McCutcheon, 6-4.

In singles action, Schouten earned the Cougars their second point of the day by dominating on court four with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over McCutcheon.

Texas State added a point to the board after Kiana Graham defeated Dzemeshkevich, 6-4, 6-1 on court one. Pedemonti gave Houston the 3-1 lead after defeating Malazonia, 7-5, 7-5, in a tight match on court three.

After dropping the second set on court five, Blanca Cortijo Parreno sealed the 4-1 victory for the Cougars topping Andrea Pineda, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (6-0).

The Cougars are now 9-0 all-time against the Bobcats.

UP NEXT
The Cougars will continue at home where they will host Prairie View for a doubleheader on Friday, Feb. 3 with the first match beginning at 10 a.m., followed by the second match at 2 p.m. Admission is free and no student claim is necessary.
