Tennis Sweeps Prairie View in Doubleheader

Houston adds two wins to its record against Prairie View
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Tennis program continued its winning ways after sweeping its doubleheader against Prairie View, picking up 7-0 and 4-0 victories on Friday at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility.
Houston (4-3) began the da with a 7-0 victory before closing things out with a 4-0 shutout. The pair of wins make the Cougars 19-0 all-time against Prairie View (0-9).
Starting the day, Elena Trencheva/Sophie Schouten were first off court one after defeating Victoria Castillo/Mahogani Green (6-1), while Maria Dzemeshkevich/Azul Pedemonti clinched the doubles point on court three after beating Ruju Chauhan/Salma Villalobos (6-2).
In singles play, the Cougars swept the Panthers with wins from Schouten (6-1, 6-1), Pedemonti (6-1, 6-1), Gabriela Cortes (6-2, 6-2), Blanca Cortijo Parreno (6-3, 6-1), Dzemeshkevich (6-2, 6-3) and Trencheva (2-6, 6-2, 6-2).
Continuing their dominance through the second match of the day, Houston started strong against Prairie View earning the doubles point with wins from Cortijo Parreno and Slisane (6-1), Dzemeshkevich/Sonya Kovalenko (6-1) and Schouten/Trencheva (6-0) sealing the doubles round.
In similar fashion to its first match, the Cougars kept the Panthers from winning a single set. Claiming victories to close out the day were, Cortes (6-0, 6-1), Cortijo Parreno (6-0, 6-0) and Kovalenko (6-1, 6-2).
UP NEXT
Houston will travel to Ruston, La., to face Louisiana Tech, 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 11., followed by a trip to Nacogdoches, Texas, to take on Stephen F. Austin at 11 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 12.
The Cougars will return to the friendly confines of the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility to face Louisiana Monroe on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 11 a.m.
