Mississippi Trip Challenges Houston

HOUSTON – The University of Houston volleyball team will play a pair for 2021 NCAA Tournament teams on Friday at Mississippi State's Maroon and White Invite in Starkville, Miss., Friday and Saturday.

The Cougars open the tournament with South Alabama and Mississippi State on Friday before closing the weekend with Kennesaw State Saturday.

Junior Kate Georgiades and senior Abbie Jackson were named to The American Honor Roll on Sept. 5.
Georgiades had recorded seven-straight matches with 20-plus digs until registering just 19 digs against Alabama. The junior has five 20-dig matches in 2022.
Georgiades ranks 6th nationally in digs/set (5.71) and 14th nationally in total digs (120).
Jackson ranks 20th nationally in kills/set (4.52) and 22nd nationally in total kills (95).
Texas, Mississippi State, Rice, South Alabama and two matches against conference foe UCF make up the five 2021 NCAA Tournament teams the Cougars will match up against in 2022.
The 31-match slate features seven teams that won 20-plus matches in 2021, and four that won 25-plus. UCF and Texas each won 27 matches in 2021.
The 2022 signing class sees the addition of six newcomers, split evenly between transfers and freshmen.
Four of the six new Cougars are Texas-natives with a pair of Power 5 transfers.
The Cougars return six of their seven starters in 2022 including all four The American All-Conference selections and All-American and AAC Libero of the Year, Kate Georgiades.
Taylor McColskey is the Cougars' newest assistant coach by way of Mississippi State.
Mississippi State is receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll.
Houston is 3-0 all-time against Mississippi State.
The Cougars won the 2021 meeting in Houston 3-2.
Houston and Mississippi State have never met in Starkville.
This is the first-ever meeting between Houston and Kennesaw State.
This is the first-ever meeting between Houston and South Alabama.
