Cougars, Tigers Earn 2-2 Draw

Houston set to face UTSA on Sunday
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Houston Soccer program picked up a 2-2 draw against American Athletic Conference foe Memphis on Thursday evening at the Billy J. Murphy Soccer/Track & Field Complex.
Houston (4-4-2, 1-1-1 American) got the ball rolling in the 11th minute of action when midfielder Caitlyn Matthews found the back of the net following a corner kick, assisted by defender Emma Clarke.
The Cougars increased the lead in the 62nd minute when forward Nadia Kamassah scored her second goal of the season, assisted by defender Alex Whitcraft and midfielder Samantha Wiehe.
Memphis (4-3-4, 0-0-3 American) found its way on to the board in the 85th minute with Mya Jones scoring off a corner kick cutting Houston's lead down to 2-1.
The Tigers continued to battle and sealed the 2-2 draw in the 88th minute of play off a goal from Jocelyn Alonzo.
Earning her 11th start of the season, goalkeeper Haley Woodward picked up seven saves in the match. Memphis outshot Houston 23-3 with all three shots for the Cougars being on goal.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will return to the Carl Lewis International Complex and take a pause from American action to face UTSA at 2 p.m., Sunday for HISD Day.
All kids (12 and under) will receive free admission with their youth jerseys and are invited to check out the kids' zone before the match. After the conclusion of the match, select Houston Soccer student-athletes will be available for an autograph signing.
