Women’s Golf Opens Season at Mo’Morial Invitational

Cougars tee off Tuesday morning at Traditions Club in Bryan-College Station, Texas

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The University of Houston Women's Golf program opens its 2022-23 season when it tees off Tuesday morning at the Mo'Morial Invitational at Traditions Club.
Competing on the 6,406-yard, par-72 course, the Cougars will play 36 holes Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start. Wednesday's Final Round begins with an 8 a.m., shotgun start.
A year ago, the Cougars finished second at the American Athletic Conference Championships and saw senior Annie Kim qualify as an individual for the NCAA Franklin Regional.

MEET the COUGARS
Under the leadership of Carolyn Macow Leatherwood Head Coach Lydia Gumm, the Cougars will be represented by Kim, freshmen Natalie Saint Germain, Alexa Saldana and Moa Svedenskiold and junior Nicole Abelar. Junior Delaney Martin will compete as an individual.
A year ago, Kim was the team leader, posting a team-best 74.03 scoring average with 11 rounds of par or lower. The Seoul native finished with three Top-12 individual finishes, including a season-best fourth-place showing at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational.
Kim became the first Cougar to compete in NCAA Regional play as an individual competitor and was named to the All-American Athletic Conference Team after tying for 12th at the league's Championships. She also earned honors as a WGCA All-American Scholar and was named to The American's All-Academic Team.
Saint German, Saldana and Svedenskiold will make their collegiate debuts as freshmen with the Cougars after award-winning junior careers.
Abelar was named to the All-Conference Team after tying for fourth at The American Championships and compete at the U.S. Amateur Championships in August. Martin is one of the elder stateswomen on the Cougars' 2022-23 roster as a two-year letterwinner.
TEAM FIELD
The Cougars will compete against student-athletes from Charlotte, Florida, Kansas, Kansas State, Miami (Fla.), North Carolina, North Texas, SMU, Texas, Texas State, Texas Tech, UTSA and host Texas A&M.
PAIRINGS
For Monday's First Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from North Texas and UTSA beginning at 8 a.m.
Saint Germain begins her collegiate career in the first group off No. 8 with Kim (second group off No. 8), Saldana (No. 9), Abelar (first group off No. 10) and Svedenskiold (second group off No. 10) following.

Following the Mo'Morial Invitational, the Cougars quickly continue their fall slate when they tee off at the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Okla. That three-day event will be held Sept. 24-26 at Belmar Golf Club and hosted by Oklahoma.
From there, the Cougars compete at the Jim West Challenge, set for Oct. 23-24 at Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos, Texas, and host by Texas State.
Houston closes out its fall schedule when it tees off at the Battle at the Beach, hosted by TCU at Club Campestre San Jose in San Jose del Cabo, B.C.S., Mexico on Oct. 28-30.
