Clarke Named United Soccer Coaches Players to Watch

New Zealand native selected as one of 35 top defenders in the nation
HOUSTON – University of Houston soccer senior Emma Clarke has been named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women's Players to Watch List for the 2022 season, the association announced Tuesday.

Clarke was one of 35 defenders in the country named to the list. She is one of two representatives from the American Athletic Conference alongside South Florida's Vivianne Bessette.

The Christchurch, New Zealand, native enters her fifth season with the Cougars after being named to the All-American Athletic Conference Second Team following the 2021 season. Clarke was a force on the backline, helping the Cougars earn nine shutouts and leading the team to a historic 13-5-2 season.

Following the exhibition against LSU, the Cougars will kick off the regular season against Oklahoma in Norman, Okla. at 7 p.m., Aug. 18. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
