Senior guard collects honor from Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook
HOUSTON – University of Houston Men's Basketball senior guard Marcus Sasser was named to the Preseason All-America First Team by Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook on Monday.
The Dallas native was a Preseason All-American Athletic Conference selection and averaged a team-high 17.7 points per game before being sidelined following foot surgery in December 2021.
In early June, he electrified Houston fans with his decision to withdraw his name from the NBA Draft and return to Houston for his senior season.
Sasser posted four 20-point games in his first 12 contests a year ago, including season highs with 26 points in wins against Rice and Northwestern State.
He drained seven 3-pointers in the first half of the win against Northwestern State, tying the school record set by Robert McKiver against Charleston on Nov. 17, 2007.
With 180 3-pointers and 498 3-point attempts to date, Sasser is poised to set Houston career records in both categories as he prepares for the 2022-23 season.
Sasser was joined on the Preseason All-America Team by Armando Bacot (North Carolina), Trayce Jackson-Davis (Indiana), Drew Timme (Gonzaga) and Oscar Tshiebwe (Kentucky). Tshiebwe was recognized as Blue Ribbon's National Preseason Player of the Year.

Under Sampson's leadership, the Cougars have posted seven consecutive 20-win seasons, including a pair of 30-win campaigns, and competed in each of the last four NCAA Tournaments to tie a school record.
