Softball assistant heads to Houston after multiple stops in Pacific Northwest
HOUSTON – University of Houston Softball Head Coach Kristin Vesely added a diverse softball mind to her staff on Friday with the addition of Ben Reindel as Volunteer Assistant Coach.
Reindel joins the Cougars after spending the past two seasons as the baseball head coach at Green River College in Auburn, Wash., where he inherited a zero-win program and took the program to double-digit wins in his first full season. It was the program's first double-digit winning season in eight years.
"We are incredibly excited to add Ben to our staff," Vesely said. "His level of experience on the field, his ability to implement technology into the offensive side of the program and knowledge of the game will provide a tremendous boost to our team."
Before Green River, Reindel spent four seasons as the head softball coach and Assistant Athletic Director at Shoreline Community College. While leading the program, Reindel bolstered the program to a top 10 RPI ranking in just 16 months after taking the job.
Reindel coached 15 All NWAC North Award winners over those four seasons including eight first teamers notably, NWAC Golden Shoe winner Sarah Casel who received an offer from Oregon State and Kacey Hvitved who moved on to play at Ole Miss and Fresno State after Shoreline. Reindel also spent time at Seattle University where he was an assistant coach working with infielders, hitters, recruiting and coordinating the defense. At Seattle U, Coach Reindel helped freshman Alyson Matriotti develop into an All-WAC First Team selection.
A Central Washington graduate, Reindel received his bachelor's in social science and holds a PX2® Facilitator Certificate from The Pacific Institute. PX2® is a life-changing experience, promoting positive communication, building stronger relationships, and equipping individuals with effective thinking skills that act as a springboard to a successful future. He and his wife Kala, who is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Texas A&M University, reside in Bryan, Texas.
Reindel joins the Cougars program coming off a 27-27-1 season which featured two top 25 wins, two wins against Texas A&M and a semifinal appearance at the American Athletic Conference Championship.
