McDonald Joins Men’s Basketball as Video Coordinator

Former assistant video coordinator, student manager rejoins Cougars after working at Lamar in 2021-22
HOUSTON – Matthew McDonald has returned to the University of Houston Men's Basketball program as the team's video coordinator, Head Coach Kelvin Sampson announced Thursday.
In his role, McDonald will work closely with Sampson and the coaching staff on opponents' scouting reports and game preparations and assist in other areas of the program.
McDonald is no stranger to Sampson and the Houston Men's Basketball program. He first joined the team as a student manager from 2017 to 2019 before serving as the Cougars' assistant video coordinator from 2019 to 2021.
McDonald served as the video coordinator at Lamar during the 2021-22 season when he worked for former Houston Head Coach and Assistant Coach Alvin Brooks and Houston letterman and Lamar Assistant Coach Mikhail McLean.
"I have always been a family guy, and Matt is part of the family. Matt is a hard worker, starting as a manager, then becoming a senior manager and then transitioning into video. Alvin made a great hire in taking him to Lamar." said Sampson, who begins his ninth season with the Cougars in 2022-23. "For me, it's all about family. If you work in our program, you have a connection. That's something that has been great for our program."
In addition to his professional experience at the collegiate level, McDonald also has assisted Team USA Basketball and worked with Aaron Miller Elite Bball Training.
