Houston's Director of Football Video receives Bob Matey Award
HOUSTON – The Collegiate Sports Video Association named Christopher Miller, Director of Football Video at the University of Houston, its Bob Matey Award winner as the organization's national video coordinator of the year. The announcement came Wednesday at the organization's annual banquet in Jacksonville, Fla.
The Bob Matey Award is presented annually to the individual who possesses the qualities and attributes portrayed by the late Bob Matey, video coordinator at Texas A&M. A pioneer in the coaches' video field, Matey was instrumental in the development and operation of Texas A&M's video laboratory from 1987 until his death in 1997.
Miller is the first Houston staffer and first American Athletic Conference staffer to receive the award which has been presented annually since 1998.
Miller was named the CSVA American Athletic Conference Video Coordinator of the Year in March. He previously received CSVA Video Coordinator of the Year honors twice, doing so in 2012-13 as Director of Football Video at Wyoming and again in 2018-19 as Director of Creative and Coaches Video at the Air Force Academy.
His career began as a student filmer at Wyoming in July 2006 before transitioning to Assistant Director of Football Video in 2010 and eventually Director in 2011. There, he handled production, editing, and cutting of multiple coaches' videos while mentoring seven student filmers.
He spent the 2013 and 2014 football seasons at Houston, assisting with scouting reports and game strategies, before transitioning over to Air Force. He re-joined the University of Houston in August 2020 as its Director of Football Video where he plans, edits, and produces team films, coordinating video production and staffing, films all Houston Football events, and oversees 13 student staffers, among other responsibilities.
