Uhse Homers, Cougars Retain Sanders Cup

Uhse, who entered the eighth 0-for-4, smacked his fifth home run of the season 423 feet, helping the Cougars improve to 8-0 in the midweek. With the result, Houston (20-9) captured its second straight Sanders Cup and notched its 20th victory on the season.
Zach Arnold (3-for-5) crushed a two-run, 411-foot home run over the left field wall to put Houston ahead 5-3 in the sixth. The redshirt sophomore's team-leading sixth homer of the season was his fourth in the last eight contests. Sam Houston (16-13) answered back with two runs in the seventh and another in the eighth.
Cougar closer Ben Sears (5-0) earned the victory, allowing three hits and one run while striking out a pair. Houston used seven pitchers on the night with Cameron Prayer and Taylor Parrett each tossing 0.2 scoreless frames.

Trailing by one in the fifth, the Cougars capitalized on a double steal from Arnold and Anthony Tulimero as Malachi Lott placed a perfect two-out bunt to the left side to score Arnold, knotting the game at three-all.
Houston starter Logan Clayton tossed 3.0 innings, allowing two hits and one run alongside four strikeouts. Sam Houston starter Coltin Atkinson allowed two runs on three hits with four strikeouts across 3.0 innings.
Sam Houston produced 13 hits and batted .400 (8-of-20) with runners aboard but hit just .154 (2-for-13) with runners in scoring position. Reliever Gavi Coldiron (1-2) drew the loss, allowing two runs on one hit with a walk.
