Cougars Cap Homestand, Host Memphis

HOUSTON – Houston Baseball wraps its eight-game homestand when the Cougars welcome Memphis for a three-game series beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday from Sanders Field at Schroeder Park. Saturday's middle game is at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday's finale starts at 1 p.m.

Houston (24-13, 5-4 American) is looking for its third conference series victory. The Cougars, who sit 2.0 games back of league-leader East Carolina, took 2 of 3 from Tulane last weekend and improved to 9-1 in the midweek with a 4-2 victory over HBU on Tuesday.

Memphis (17-16, 3-6 American) took 2 of 3 from South Florida last weekend to earn its first conference series victory. The Tigers are second in The American in doubles (69) and strikeouts per nine innings (10.1).

A Houston win on Saturday means fans in attendance walk away with a buy one, get one free box combo offer courtesy of Raising Cane's. Come out for Kids Day and Family Day at the ballpark on Sundays. Kids (12 and under) get in free with their youth jersey and may run the bases postgame.

NEED TO KNOW
Houston and Memphis have met 78 times with the Cougars holding a 54-24 advantage in the all-time series which began in 2007. This weekend marks Memphis' first visit to Houston since March 23-25, 2018. The Cougars swept that series and are 7-2 against Memphis at home since 2014.

Houston has won two of its first three American Conference series with both series wins coming at home (Wichita State, Tulane). The Cougars are batting .280 in league play including hitting .328 (38-for-116) with runners aboard. Brandon Uhse paces the Cougars with four home runs and nine RBIs.

The Cougars, who are wrapping up a stretch of 19 of 23 games at home, will play 11 of their final 16 away from Schroeder Park. Houston is 18-6 at home, including winning all six home weekend series. Houston is batting .315 while registering a 4.38 ERA at home.

UP NEXT
Houston opens an abbreviated four-game road trip when it visits Lamar at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The contest can be heard on The Varsity Network. The matchup will be the second between the teams this season with the Cougars outlasting the Cardinals, 6-5, on March 1.
