Wichita State uses three-consecutive solo home runs in fifth inning to sweep Houston

HOUSTON – Three consecutive home runs in the fifth inning provided Wichita State a two-run lead that the Houston softball team could not overcome as the Cougars fell 7-6 on Saturday afternoon at Cougar Softball Stadium.

The Cougars (23-19-1, 7-4-1 American) led on four different occasions, but saw each dissipate as the Shockers (24-13, 7-2 American) hit their way to the series sweep.

Wichita State's Addison Barnard became the Shockers' first 20 home run, 20 stolen bases player in program history, hitting two home runs in the game.

Cougar designated player Bethany Busch slugged two extra-base hits, including a huge two-run home run in the fourth inning to give Houston a lead that held through the frame.

Houston tried to rally in the seventh via a solo home run by center fielder Aspen Howie, but the comeback fell short.

UP NEXT
The Cougars will look to get back in the win column at No. 14 Texas at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The contest can be seen on the Longhorn Network. Houston will then return home to Cougar Softball Stadium for Senior Weekend against league leaders No. 18 UCF in a three-game set Friday-Sunday, April 22-24.
