Cougars Take Series, Roll Wave, 10-9

The Cougars (22-13, 5-4 American) sent 12 batters to the plate in the fifth, delivering eight hits, including six with two away. The nine runs were the most in an inning for Houston since plating as many against the Green Wave (24-12-1, 6-3 American) on May 24, 2018.
After Zach Arnold drove in two in the fourth, Alex Lopez knotted the game at four-all on a base hit. Houston opened the floodgates as Ryan Hernandez delivered a two-run double, Samuel Tormos provided an RBI-single and Ian McMillan swatted a two-run home run.
The Green Wave chipped away at Houston's six-run advantage, answering with three runs in the fifth and two more in the eighth. In his third appearance of the weekend, Cougar closer Ben Sears locked up his seventh save, allowing two runs on four hits in 3.1 innings.
Houston reliever Logan Clayton (2-3) earned the win, tossing 1.1 innings, allowing one hit alongside two strikeouts. Offensively, the Cougars amassed 16 hits led by three each from Arnold and Hernandez. All 10 Houston runs came with two away.
Tulane put three across in the first inning with leadoff batter Ethan Gross depositing the second pitch of the game over the left field wall for his seventh homer of the season. Cameron Nickens trimmed Tulane's lead to 4-1 with an RBI-double in the fourth.
Houston starter Derrick Cherry allowed four runs on five hits with three strikeouts and a walk in 3.2 innings. Tulane starter Michael Massey held Houston to one hit in the first three innings before eventually allowing six runs on nine hits in 4.2 innings.
