HOUSTON – The Houston softball team mustered two hits and allowed 10 runs against the conference's best offense, and preseason favorite, in a 10-1 loss to Wichita State at Cougar Softball Stadium on Thursday.

Wichita State (22-13, 5-2 American) jumped out to a three-run lead in the first inning thanks to a three-run home run by second baseman Zoe Jones before Houston starter Kenna Wilkey (8-6) struck out two in a row to end the inning.

Both teams scored unearned runs in the fourth inning. Houston (23-17-1, 7-2-1 American) scored on a bases loaded line drive to second which was dropped. However, a base running mistake resulted in two outs, ending the inning.

The Shockers hung a six-spot in sixth inning thanks to a single, sacrifice fly and back-to-back two-out doubles.

Houston's eight-game unbeaten streak and nine-game winning streak at home ended with the loss.
