Lightning Suspends Houston-McNeese Game
4/12/2022 7:56:00 PM | Softball
LAKE CHARLES, La. – In a game that saw two lightning delays, the Houston softball team led McNeese 4-1 in the bottom of the first before the game was ultimately halted due to lightning and student-athlete safety.
The two teams will look to reschedule the game. Details surrounding whether the game will resume in the bottom of the first inning or if the game will restart completely will be decided later.
A four-run first inning for the Cougars set the table, scoring multiple runs in the first inning for the second-straight game. A two out strikeout passed ball allowed catcher Kati Ray Brown to reach first and allowed two runs to score.
The next batter, designated player Bethany Busch tripled to left-center, scoring Brown. Then, first baseman Britaney Shaw doubled past the third base bag to plate Busch.
The Cowgirls answered with a run of their own in the first inning on a sacrifice fly. Following the out, game officials, the umpires, the two head coaches and athletic trainers met and discussed the possibility of continuing the game. Multiple lightning strikes continued to delay the game before it was ultimately called off.
