White, Carlton to Compete at Portsmouth Invitational

Cougar duo begins play at prestigious event on Thursday; Could one another on Friday
PORTSMOUTH, Va. – University of Houston forwards Fabian White Jr. and Josh Carlton will compete in the prestigious Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, beginning Thursday.
As two of the nation's Top 64 college basketball players, White and Carlton will compete in a four-day, 12-game tournament in front of representatives from every NBA team. The event will be held at Churchland High School.
White and Carlton are two of the latest Cougars to compete at the Portsmouth Invitational. Guard Rob Gray (2018), guard Damyean Dotson (2017) and guard Andre Owens (2005) are three of the more recent invitees.

ABOUT FABIAN WHITE Jr.
White will play for the Mike Duman Auto Sales team, with his first game scheduled for 8 p.m. (CDT) against the Portsmouth Partnership team. His second game at the Portsmouth Invitational will come Friday at a time based on Thursday's result.
With his impressive play throughout the 2021-22 season, White earned numerous awards after averaging 12.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and a team-high 1.4 blocked shots per game.
He was named to the All-American Athletic Conference and NABC All-District 24 First teams and was honored as The American Championship's Most Outstanding Player after leading the Cougars to wins over Tulane, Cincinnati and Memphis.
A two-time American Athletic Conference Player of the Week in 2021-22, White was the only Cougar to start all 38 games and scored 20+ points in seven games.
White poured in a career-high 28 points with 10 rebounds against Cincinnati on March 1 as the Cougars clinched The American regular-season championship and tallied a team-best-tying four double-doubles.
In addition to his accomplishments this season, White has etched his name in the Houston records book. He became the winningest player in school history with 121 victories and competed in a school-record 149 games during his career.
White also moved past the 1,000-point milestone this season, becoming the 49th student-athlete in school history to reach that milestone with the Cougars.
White will compete on the Mike Cuman Auto Sales Team with Nick Muszynski (Belmont), Isaiah Whaley (UConn), Stanley Umide (Arkansas), Jeenathan Williams (Buffalo), Alex Morales (Wagner), Jamaree Bouyea (San Francisco) and Alex Barcello (BYU).

ABOUT JOSH CARLTON
Carlton will compete on the Sales Systems, Ltd., team with its first game scheduled against Portsmouth Sports Club at 6 p.m. (CDT) Thursday. His second game at the Portsmouth Invitational will come Friday at a time based on Thursday's result.
Competing in his first season with the Cougars, Carlton was a leader in the frontcourt in 2021-22.
After graduating and transferring from UConn, Carlton averaged 11.6 points and a team-best 6.2 rebounds per game at Houston. He enjoyed four 20-point games this season with a UH season-high 30 points on 11-of-16 shooting in a road win at South Florida on Jan. 5.
The Winterville, N.C., native led The American and ranked 20th nationally with 3.3 offensive rebounds per contest and stood seventh in the league with 1.2 blocked shots per game.
Carlton also became a 1,000-point scorer in his career this season, reaching that total in a road win at Cincinnati on Feb. 6.
Carlton will compete on the Sales System, Ltd. Team with Gaige Prim (Mississippi State), Justin Bean (Utah State), Cole Swider (Syracuse), Michael Devoe (Georgia Tech), Ryan Terrell (Yeshiva), Alonzo Verge Jr. (Nebraska) and Michael Flowers (Washington State).
