Midweek Pitstop Sends Houston to McNeese

HOUSTON − The University of Houston softball team takes its eight-game unbeaten streak to Lake Charles on Tuesday to take on the McNeese Cowgirls in a 6 p.m. CT showdown at Cowgirl Diamond.

For the first time since joining The American, the Cougars swept the weekly awards. Bethany Busch was named Player of the Week and Kenna Wilkey was named Pitcher of the Week.
Houston is off to its hottest conference start since 2014 (7-1-1).
The Cougars' sweep of the Pirates marked the team's first road sweep since 2018 (at Memphis).
In conference play, Houston leads the AAC in runs scored (54).
In conference play, Kati Ray Brown leads the AAC in home run (5), Amanda Carden leads the AAC in hits (12) and Hannah Todd leads the AAC in wins (4).
Paige Hulsey set a school record for stolen bases with a perfect 4-for-4 on stolen base attempts against Memphis on April 3.
Hannah Todd became the first pitcher to win all three games of a series in program history.
Houston has won its last nine home games.
Houston is 5-1 when the temperature is 70-plus.
The Cougars hit a season-high five home runs against Tulsa on March 26.
Houston tied a game for the second time ever when it tied Tulsa 2-2 on March 27 (last in 2010).
Becca Schulte hit a home run in the final game of 2020, did not play in 2021, and hit a home run in her first at-bat of 2022. Thus, Schulte hit a home run in back-to-back games spanning 23 months.
Graduate student Becca Schulte is competing in her seventh season as a collegiate athlete. Schulte graduated high school in 2015. She is one of two known 7th-year softball players in the DI ranks.
Houston will face four Preseason Top 25 teams in 2022, including three teams in the Top 10 of D1Softball's preseason poll.
The Cougars play 10 teams that made a regional in 2021 and seven Power 5 opponents in 2022, facing those seven teams a total of 11 total times.

Houston swept its 2nd-consecutive conference series after sweeping East Carolina.
