Wilkey strikes out 6 Rebels in relief
LAS VEGAS – Senior Kenna Wilkey struck out six batters in 3.1 relief innings but Houston softball fell to UNLV 5-0 in the finale of the Boyd Gaming Classic on Sunday.
UNLV (15-4) scored all five of its runs with two outs, plating three in the third inning and a pair on a home run in the sixth inning.
A two-out Houston (9-11) error gave the Rebels life in the third inning, which they capitalized on with back-to-back base hits to go up 3-0.
Wilkey entered after the three runs had been scored and struck out the final out of the inning.
The senior pitcher then struck out the side in the fourth inning, added another strikeout in the fifth inning and another in the sixth inning.
Catcher Kati Ray Brown had a home run robbed in the seventh inning as right fielder Sofia Morales made a leaping grab over the wall to haul in the catch.
