Houston Earns Saturday Push

Schulte hits 3 home runs, Cougars hit 5 home runs on the day
GAME 1
Houston (9-10) posted a season-high 14 hits and scored multiple runs in three separate innings in its 11-7 win against New Mexico State (2-9) on Saturday.
The Cougars scored four runs in the first inning, five runs in the second inning and a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Houston's 14 hits set a season-high and tied the most hits since April 17, 2021 against East Carolina.
For the second game this season, second baseman Becca Schulte hit two home runs, homering in the second inning and in the sixth inning. Schulte set a season-high four RBI, which tied her career-high, last accomplished against New Mexico State in 2020 at the Boyd Gaming Classic.
Catcher Kati Ray Brown also hit a home run in the game, a three-run blast in the second inning, her third of the season.
Three different Cougars drove in three-plus runs, Schulte (4), Brown (3) and center fielder Aspen Howie (3). Six different Cougars had multi-hit games and three Houston hitters had three-hit games.
In a 2.1 inning start, senior Kenna Wilkey struck out a pair and allowed just one earned run. Senior Saleen Flores (1-3) earned her first win of the season, tossing a perfect sixth inning with a strikeout.
GAME 2
Houston tied the game two different times against #7 Washington (13-5), but a three-run third inning was just enough for the Huskies to hold off the Cougars.
Schulte kept her hot hitting going with her third home run of the day, a two-run shot to tie the game at 2-2 in the second inning. Schulte leads UH with six home runs and 17 RBI.
Howie then hit her first home run of the day with a solo shot in the third inning that tied the game back up at 3-3.
NEXT UP
The Cougars close out the Boyd Gaming Classic on Sunday with a 1 p.m. CT game against hosts UNLV.
