Kenna Wilkey spins complete game 2-hitter in shutout of UNLV
LAS VEGAS – After beating #7 Washington earlier in the day, the Houston softball team shutout UNLV in the nightcap on Friday, 3-0.
Houston (8-9) used three different one-run innings, six strikeouts from its starter and solid defense to top UNLV (13-3).
Right fielder Amanda Carden continued her clutch hitting with another RBI, driving in designated player Kylee Gibson in the second inning. Carden now has an RBI in four of her last five games and is hitting .382 on the season.
In the third inning, center fielder Aspen Howie appeared to have flied out to end the inning, but an error by the UNLV right fielder dropped the ball, scoring second baseman Becca Schulte from first base to put the Cougars up 2-0.
Center fielder Aspen Howie blasted her second home run of the day in the sixth inning. A solo home run to right field added Houston's third run of the game.
Senior Kenna Wilkey spun a 2-hit gem on the way to her second complete game of the season. Wilkey struck out six and did not give up a walk.
