Guard Taze Moore to Compete in NCAA Slam Dunk Contest

High-flying Cougar will compete for $5,000 first prize

HOUSTON – University of Houston high-flying graduate guard Taze Moore will compete in the Great Clips Slam Dunk Championship at the 33rd annual State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships in New Orleans, beginning at 8 p.m., Thursday.
Tickets are available beginning at only $10 by clicking here. The event will be held inside the Convocation Center on the campus of Xavier University.
Moore electrified Houston fans inside the Fertitta Center throughout the 2021-22 season with his jumping abilities and dunking prowess.
Moore is one of seven student-athletes selected to compete in the event with the winner receiving $5,000. He will face Jalen Adaway (St. Bonaventure), Branden Ellis (Lynn), Sean Miller-Moore (Grand Canyon), Alex O'Connell (Creighton), Derek St. Hilaire (New Orleans) and Alondes Williams (Wake Forest).

ABOUT TAZE MOORE
As a starter for the Cougars in 2021-22, he helped lead Houston to a 32-6 overall, record, a sweep of the American Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament championships and the NCAA Elite Eight for the second straight season.
Moore played in all but two games this season with 31 starts, averaging 10.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and a team-best 1.6 steals per game.
He enjoyed 20 games with double-digit points and posted a season-high 21 points in the Cougars' NCAA Tournament Second Round win over #19/16 Illinois on March 20.
The Southaven, Miss., native closed his collegiate career with a double-double, finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds in the Cougars' NCAA Elite Eight loss to #6/5 Villanova on March 26.

Intersport, producers of the event, invites 24 of the nation's elite men's and women's college basketball players to compete for slam dunk and 3-point shooting bragging rights.
The night features the Great Clips Slam Dunk Championship, the TaxAct Men's 3-Point Championship, the Rocket Mortgage Women's 3-Point Shooting Championship and the Applebee's Team Shootout. The winners of the TaxAct Men's and Rocket Mortgage Women's 3-Point Championships will then compete in the State Farm Battle of the Champions.
Since the event's inception, several of the top players in college basketball have competed in the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships before moving on to the professional ranks, including Gary Payton, Steve Nash, Jason Terry, Kyle Korver, Bobby Hurley, Michael Finley, Allan Houston, Wesley Matthews, Denzel Valentine, Yogi Ferrell, Cappie Pondexter, Katie Gearlds, Kristi Toliver, Odyssey Sims, Tiffany Hayes, Tiffany Mitchell and Ariel Atkins.
