
Women’s Golf Finishes Play at Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic

Sophomore Nicole Abelar leads Cougars
ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Houston Women's Golf program finished play at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at University of Georgia Golf Course on Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars posted their lowest team round of the tournament at 305 and finished the three-day, 54-hole tournament at 937 to stand in 13th.
The elite tournament featured 12 of the nation's Top-40 teams, including eight of the Top 25.
Abelar tied for 52nd at 234, while senior Maria Jose Martinez tied for 55th at 235. Senior Annie Kim and sophomore Delaney Martin tied for 61st at 237, while senior Ariana Saenz tied for 76th at 243.
No. 4 South Carolina captured the team championship with a score of 874 to finish eight strokes ahead of No. 16 Texas A&M. No. 3 Wake Forest (888), No. 12 Alabama (894), No. 31 Georgia (901), Georgia 'B" (901), USC (901), No. 17 Arkansas (910), No. 30 Mississippi State (911) and No. 38 Louisville (913) rounded out the Top 10.
Alabama's Polly Mack won medalist honors at 3-under 213, while Wake Forest's Carolina Lopez-Chacarra and USC's Amari Avery tied for second at 217. Mississippi State's Julia Lopez Ramirez finished fourth with 218, while South Carolina teammates Louise Rydqvist and Hannah Darling joined Texas A&M's Hailee Cooper in a tie for fifth at 219.

Following the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, the Cougars close out their regular season when they compete at The Bruzzy at Winstar Golf Club in Thackerville, Okla., on April 11-12.
From there, Houston takes its first steps in the postseason when it competes at the American Athletic Conference Championships, set for April 17-19 at Pinehurst #6 – Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, N.C.
The Cougars will learn their NCAA postseason fate during the Selection Show, airing at 4 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, on Golf Channel.
Seventy-two teams and 12 individuals not on those teams will compete at six NCAA Regional sites across the nation. Those venues include Stanford Golf Course (Stanford, Calif.); Vanderbilt Legends Club (Franklin, Tenn.); The Championship Course at UNM (Albuquerque, N.M.); University of Michigan Golf Course (Ann Arbor, Mich.); Karsten Creek Golf Club (Stillwater, Okla.) and Seminole Legacy Golf Club (Tallahassee, Fla.).
