Cougars to play 36 holes Monday with Final Round on Tuesday at The Floridian Golf Club
PALM CITY, Fla. – The University of Houston Men's Golf program prepares to host one of the nation's most prestigious events when it tees off at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational at The Floridian Golf Club, beginning Monday morning.
The tournament annually features many of the nation's top team, and the 2022 event is no exception. The 15-team field in the 2022 event features 10 of the country's Top-50 programs, including four of the Top 10 and seven of the Top 25.
Teams will play 36 holes Monday on the 6,921-yard, par-72 course with the Second Round expected to begin around 12:30 p.m. The Final Round is scheduled for Tuesday.
The event is free and open to the public, which is invited to attend.
Houston enters the Valspar Collegiate Invitational after tying for second with a score of 586. Senior Alexander Frances, senior Braxton Watkins and junior Marcus Wochner each finished among the Top-11 leaders at the tournament, which was shortened to 36 holes after inclement weather forced the cancellation of the Final Round.

ABOUT the COUGARS
Under the leadership of Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke, the Cougars will be represented by Frances, Watkins, Wochner, Reily and senior Andrew Gibson.
Redshirt freshman Jacob Borow will compete as an individual.
Frances has been the Cougars' leading performer throughout the 2021-22 season. The Stege, Denmark, native leads the team with a 71.70 scoring average and 13 rounds of par or better. A 2021 All-American Athletic Conference performer, Frances has recorded three Top-10 finishes this season and earned the first collegiate title of his career at the Border Olympics on Feb. 14-15.
Watkins led the Cougars at the All-American Intercollegiate on March 21. Shooting 71-27, the Winthrop, Ark., native earned a career-best fifth-place finish with a score of 1-under 143. Playing as an individual, junior Austyn Reily tied for eighth with a score of 144 after shooting 72s in back-to-back rounds.
Competing in his first season with the Cougars after transferring from Wichita State, Wochner stands third among the Cougars with a 72.90 average and nine rounds of par or better. The Holte, Denmark, native enjoyed a season-best 11th-place finish at the All-American Intercollegiate and has earned three Top-12 finishes in his last four events.

The Cougars will face #4 North Carolina, #5 Texas Tech, #6 Arizona State, #10 Pepperdine,#17 Texas A&M, #20 Wake Forest, #21 Clemson, #26 Florida State, #32 South Florida, #33 Ohio State, Duke, Marquette., Minnesota and USC.

PAIRINGS
For Monday's first two rounds, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Texas Tech and North Carolina, beginning at 7:30 a.m. (CDT) Monday.
Watkins will compete in the first group off No. 1 with Frances (second group off No. 1), Wochner (No. 2), Reily (first group off No. 3) and Gibson (second group off No. 3) following. Borow will tee off in the second group off No. 18.

UP NEXT
Following the Valspar Collegiate Invitational, the Cougars will tee off at the Aggie Invitational at Traditions Golf Club in Bryan, Texas, on April 9-10.
From there, the Cougars will send individual student-athletes to compete at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic. That tournament will be held at Walden Golf Club on Lake Conroe in Montgomery, Texas, on April 11-12.
The Cougars then take their first step in the postseason when they tee off at the American Athletic Conference Championships on April 22-24 at Southern Hills Plantation in Brooksville, Fla. The winner of the league' annual postseason tournament receives an automatic bid to NCAA Regional play, set for May 16-18 at one of six sites across the nation.
