Cougars to continue action Monday at noon

HOUSTON – Houston Tennis recorded its fifth win of the season with a 6-1 victory against UTSA on Sunday afternoon at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility.

The Cougars (5-4) started the day off strong sweeping doubles play followed by a successful round of singles competition. Houston only allowed the Roadrunners (1-10) to put one point on the board.

Houston will continue action Monday against Northwestern State at noon. Fans can attend the match free of charge and no student ticket claim will be necessary.

To win the doubles point, Sophie Gerits and Elena Trencheva teamed up to defeat UTSA's Eva Beyebach and Stanislava Bobrovnikova, 6-3. On Court Two, Laura Slisane and Blanca Cortijo Parreno outscored UTSA's Jasmin Starr and Keegan McCain, 6-3.

Following the doubles point, Houston continued its success as it moved into singles, winning four out of five matches.

In a tiebreaker, Houston's Maria Dzemeshkevich defeated UTSA's Aleksandra Zlatarova on Court One (2-6, 6-3, 6-4) to clinch the match for the Cougars.

The lone point for UTSA was put on the board after Slisane fell to Jasmin Starr in a close match, 6-3, 7-5.

The Cougars are now 10-0 all-time against the Roadrunners.

Houston will travel to the Dallas area to face SMU and UT Arlington. The Cougars will take on the Mustangs on Friday at 5 p.m., and the Mavericks on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Following Monday's match against Northwestern State, fans will have the opportunity to catch the Cougars at home for free four more times.
