Blair's 23 points not enough in Houston's 76-72 loss to Tulane

Laila Blair scored 23 points against Tulane, Britney Onyeje added 16
NEW ORLEANS – Despite 23 points from Laila Blair, the Houston women's basketball team (12-13, 5-8) dropped its contest against Tulane 76-72 on Sunday night in Avron B. Fogelman Arena.
Blair led the team with 23 points to go with two rebounds and two assists. Britney Onyeje added 16 points to the game with six rebounds, two steals and one block.
First Quarter
Houston got out to a hot start in the first quarter. Six-straight points from the Cougars put them ahead 6-4 before Patterson drove to the net three times. Houston closed the quarter with seven unanswered points taking the advantage 21-15.
Second Quarter
In the second, Tulane held off the Cougars for the first three minutes of the quarter. But, back-to-back buckets from Blair pushed Houston to a 26-19 lead. The Cougars struggled to find the basket as the Green Wave brought the game within two points to close the quarter, 32-30.
Third Quarter
Tulane took over in the third quarter, opening with an 11-0 run. Following five points from Eryka Sidney, the Green Wave scored another eight unanswered points going ahead 49-12. Seven points from Blair brought the Cougars back within single digits and the quarter ended with Tulane ahead 58-49.
Fourth Quarter
The Cougars mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter with a 10-2 run tying the game at 60-60. The two teams fought back and forth throughout the fourth but the charity line decided the game as Tulane went ahead with six free throws taking the win 76-72.
UP NEXT
The Cougars return home for their final two home games. Houston will host Temple on Wednesday, February 23, before Senior Day on Saturday.
