Emma Clarke named to Second Team; Alex Whitcraft named to All-Rookie Team
HOUSTON – Two members of the University of Houston Soccer program earned recognitions from the American Athletic Conference as senior Emma Clarke was named to the All-Conference Second Team, while freshman Alex Whitcraft earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team, the league office announced Wednesday.
Clarke picked up All-Second Team Honors for a second consecutive season following her final campaign with the Cougars. Clarke was named The American's Defensive Player of the Week (Oct. 28) after helping the Cougars to a clean sheet against Temple and limited the Owls to three shots on goal.
The team captain earned her second career goal in a 3-1 victory over Rice (Sept. 3) and tallied an assist against Memphis (Sept. 29). Clarke finished her career as the No. 2 all-time in program history with 71 starts and the No. 1 in program history with most minutes played at 6,556 minutes.
The Christchurch, New Zealand, native earned a Preseason All-Conference selection and was named to the United Soccer Coaches Players to Watch List and the Mac Hermann Trophy Watch List.
Whitcraft was named to the All-Rookie Team following her first-year campaign. The defender started in every match for the Houston backline, including seven matches where she played the full 90 minutes. The Grapevine, Texas, native was named The American's Rookie of the Week (Oct. 3) following her performances against Memphis (Sept. 29) and UTSA (Oct. 2) where she recorded two assists.
Whitcraft is the sixth Cougar in program history named to The American All-Rookie team, joining Desiree Bowen (2015), Jazmin Grant (2017), Reid Morrison (2018), Genaye Sanders (2020) and Samantha Wiehe (2021).
