Houston duo recognized following historic comeback win at Memphis
HOUSTON – University of Houston Football senior quarterback Clayton Tune and senior defensive back Jayce Rogers have been named the American Athletic Conference's Offensive and Special Teams Player of the Week respectively, the league office announced Monday.
The honors follow Houston's 19-point fourth quarter comeback victory at Memphis on Friday. In the win, the Cougars scored 26 fourth quarter points and mounted their second-largest road comeback victory in program history.
Rogers helped ignite the rally, returning a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown, trimming Houston's deficit to 10 points with 7:47 remaining in the fourth quarter. The feat, which came on the Valdosta, Georgia, native's first career kickoff return, was the eighth 100-yard kickoff return in program history and was just the second kickoff return touchdown for an American player this season.
Tune became just the second FBS quarterback this season to complete 35+ passes, throw for 350+ yards and toss 3+ touchdowns in a road conference game. The Carrollton, Texas, native went 36-of-57 with 366 yards and three passing touchdowns including tossing a pair of scores to senior wide receiver KeSean Carter with under two minutes remaining.
