Gear named to Honor Roll
HOUSTON – University of Houston redshirt freshman Haley Woodward was named the American Athletic Conference's Goalkeeper of the Week, and defender Alex Whitcraft was honored as Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Whitcraft's honor comes from her performances against Memphis and UTSA where she recorded two assists. This is the third straight season that a Cougar earned Rookie of the Week with Mikaela Gracia receiving the honor during the 2020 season and Samantha Wiehe claiming it in 2021.
Woodward recorded her first shutout of the season on Sunday against UTSA highlighted by a career-high nine saves. The Fayetteville, Arkansas, native ranks second in the conference with 49 saves this season.
The conference recognitions did not stop there for the Cougars as senior Madison Gear was named to the American's Honor Roll list after scoring the game-winner against UTSA on Sunday. This marked the Rockwall, Texas, native's her first goal of the season and sixth career goal with the Cougars.
