Tennis Continues Successful Weekend at Baylor Invite

Kovalenko, Slisane sweep doubles opponents
WACO, Texas – The University of Houston Tennis program earned three doubles wins and three singles wins at the Baylor Invite on Saturday inside the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
In doubles play, Gabriela Cortes and Elena Trencheva defeated TCU's Destinee Martins and Margaret Polk, 6-4. Sonya Kovalenko and Laura Slisane earned their first win of the day against Jade Otway and Yu-Chin Tsai, 6-4 and then blanked Martins and Polk, 6-0, in the second round of doubles action.
Freshman Kovalenko continued her success in singles action in a battle defeating Baylor's Brooke Thompson, 6-2, 2-6 (10-1). Sophomore Maria Dzemeshkevich earned the win against Baylor's Daniella Dimitrov in a tiebreaker with set scores of 0-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6). Gabriela Cortes earned Houston's third singles win of the day defeating Washington State's Stefaniia Mikhailova, 6-1, 6-3.
The Baylor Invite is set to wrap up on Sunday, beginning with doubles at 9 a.m. followed by singles.
